Jin Ling had really hoped he'd have A-Yuan at his side for this, but he didn't blame the sweet man for being ill one bit. In fact, he really enjoyed holding him as they finished traveling up to Lotus Pier. He sends servants off the boat to arrange a discreet delivery of his ill and subdued guest to private chambers following Ling's disembark. He instructed only Fu Geming to carry A-Yuan with Liling.
Sadly, after that, he had to leave his pets in his servants care. Squaring his shoulders, he stepped onto the pier. He bowed humbly to all of his relatives and gave them each a proper greeting- or in Wei Wuxian's case, a cheeky one.
He was brought into the main hall and given the seat next to Jiang Cheng's throne. Wei Wuxian was seated beside him with Lan Wangji at the next seat. And yes, Wangji had been offered the throne but had chosen to stay at Wuxian's side. It was Jiang Cheng's wedding, after all.
Jin Ling is happy sitting to a nice cup of tea and some wine after a long day of travel with promise of dinner coming.

"Jin-Guniang, is the young master Zheng in this room?" A young, unfamiliar male voice asks. "I have some medicine I wish to offer if you'd announce me."
"Of course. Let me ask for you," Liling says in a warm tone. She knocks on Yuan's door and peeks in. She smiles when she sees him awake. She comes in and shuts the door behind her. "Zheng-gongzi? How are you feeling? A friend of Jin-zongzhu from the Lan Clan is here to offer you some medicine. Would you feel up to seeing him?"

Huaisang lays boneless and satiated, just enjoying the afterglow and watching Jiang Cheng with a lazy smile.
"Mm, I'll sing like that for you any time you like, A-Cheng." he purrs, letting himself be drawn up into the kiss, propping himself up one one hand while the other loops around Jiang Cheng's shoulders as he sighs contentedly against his lips.
The knock is an unwelcome intrusion, and he pouts.
"M-My lord I-" Jiang Chenyue stammers "Wei-Gongzi is here, he says it's urgent"
"Just open the door, let me in," Wei Wuxian's voice can be heard outside, and the sound of a scuffle, like he's trying to barge in and Chenyue is stopping him.
no subject
He reaches down and quickly yanks his trousers up and grabbing his other robes. He saw 'the' wadded handkerchief again and groaned. He thought he'd taken care of that! He shoves it again at Huaisang.
Unfortunately, that's when their time runs out. Jiang Cheng doesn't get any robes on his shoulders, just in his fist. Huaisang's pants are still tossed on the far side of the table. A couple wine bottles, cups, plates, and even some food remains are scattered on the floor in some reckless, incriminating fashion. Both men are breathless, flushed, and flustered.
Welcome home, Big Brother!
"Wuxian! What the hell are you doing here?!"
~~~
Both. The decision is both. A few of the arrows will be dipped in oil and lit to set the carriage ablaze. Only another mile or so.
no subject
Huaisang gasps as well, but honestly he has to bite his lip to keep from laughing - he manages to fight it down, however, and get himself upright and at least get his robes wrapped round him, he takes the handkerchief Jiang Cheng shoves at him and tucks it into his sleeve without thinking (it feels lumpier than a handkerchief should, like there's something in it, but he doesn't have time to think about that now). He grabs his fan, flicking it open to cover his face but honestly he knows it's futile - the plates are scattered across the floor, his pants are lying in full view, his hair and robes are all askew and Jiang Cheng is still shirtless. It's a delightful view for him, but probably not one anyone else wants to see.
So of course that's when Wei Wuxian finally bursts through the door.
"Whatever the hell you're-" he stops abruptly, staring at the sight before him. The air stinks of sex and the two of them, well, it does not take a genius to figure out what went on here.
"...I have so many questions and I don't think I want the answers to any of them." Wei Wuxian says slowly, shaking his head like he can clear the image from his eyes.
"It doesn't matter. Jiang Cheng we have to go, Jin Ling is still in danger and it's urgent. There are still guards who want him dead and they're planning something. We have to go now."
no subject
He takes a very haggard breath as his brother visibly catches up with the clues around the room. Yep, this just happened. Thanks. Thanks world, he needed to add this experience to his life. He starts drawing his robes around him when that last bomb is dropped on him.
"What?!" He'd told Jin Ling not to leave yet! (No, he hadn't. He just meant to.) He looks down at Huaisang and is at a loss for words. Finally he settles on simply, "I have to go after him." He would've kissed him or caressed his cheek or something but he can't bring himself to do it right in front of his brother- who gets a glare just for that reason. He sighs and steps away.
More like, staggers. He pauses and goes back to the throne to fetch Sandu, having left it the first time. When Wei Wuxian gets close enough, he'll find his brother doesn't just reek of sex. He stinks even worse of booze. "Let's ride swords!"
no subject
Huaisang just nods - honestly he's not expecting anything in front of other people, so he isn't surprised when Jiang Cheng just walks away. He wants to offer something, some kind of help, but the rest of his people had already left, there isn't anything he can offer.
"...Jiang Cheng are you drunk?" his brother stares at him, aghast. This is the last thing he needs. He shouldn't be surprised, he thinks, he doubts the other man would have slept with Huaisang in his throne room sober (sorry Huaisang), but he's still way, way drunker than he would have guessed initially.
"Shit. You can't ride your sword you'll fall off," also, asshole, your brother can't ride his sword at all because somebody has his golden core. "Can you meditate on a horse? Maybe we should take a boat... I know you can burn off alcohol with spiritual energy but..." but he'll need his energy to help save Jin Ling. Fuck.
Huaisang clears his throat.
"I can give him energy," he offers "he can use my energy to burn off the alcohol while we travel."
no subject
"You the only one allowed to drink in this family?" He snaps at what he takes is an accusation. "All you ever do is drink!"
He looks at Wei Wuxian like he'd lost his mind. Why the hell was he asking if he could meditate on a horse and then a boat? Were they trying to take a horse on a boat? That didn't sound like a good idea.
"You can what?" Alright, he might be getting this now. He can use the energy to get to Jin Ling and save him but first he has to ride on a sword on a horse on a boat. Where Huaisang fit in there, he wasn't sure, but he was up for it. He really wanted to lay down for a it. That was some awesome sex. He should tell Wei Wuxian about it. He's never going to guess who he nailed tonight!
He blinks at his brother. "What are we doing?"
no subject
"Aiya..." Wei Wuxian groans, scrubbing a hand over his face. He turns to Jiang Chenyue, who is mostly trying to pretend he isn't here.
"You. Go and gather as many men as can be ready in..." he glances at his brother then back "ten minutes. Get horses, we have to travel as fast as possible. Nie-zongzhu will have to ride with your lord."
(There was a joke about riding in there somewhere, he's sure, and he'd find it and make it if he was talking about anybody except his own brother. He can already see Huaisang sniggering behind his fan)
"Yes, Wei-gongzi," Chenyue has the sense to just bow and run off rather than looking to his very drunk leader for confirmation.
"You two," Wei Wuxian points between Huaisang and his brother "get dressed properly. Please. Be ready to leave."
no subject
Fortunately even if he was drunk the rest of the clan wasn't. They quickly assembled a team, loaded up medical supplies, horses, and snickered amongst themselves because.. they were only human. It would be easier on Jiang Cheng and his 'condition' if they used a carriage, but they could move much faster without one. They knew which one he and his brother would choose without even asking.
no subject
Wei Wuxian groans, throwing up his hands in frustration and turning on his heel to march out the room.
Now that the rest of the clan is rushing about getting ready and they're alone again, Huaisang closes his fan and clears his throat again.
"A-Cheng..." he says, a little awkwardly, then he pauses and seems to think better of it "Let's get you more presentable so we can get going."
They need to talk about this, yes, but it can wait until they don't have to go and safe his nephew from whatever danger he's in... and maybe Jiang Cheng being sober will help, too.
no subject
He walks up to the smaller man and hooks his hands around his trim waist. "We finally got rid of my brother, are you sure you wish to go anywhere? We could just put a ward on that door and lock him out better."
no subject
Heavens help him. How is he supposed to resist that? If it were anything, anything other than Jin Ling in trouble he'd say to hell with the rest of the world and do exactly what Jian Cheng wanted - but he can't. He knows the other man would never forgive himself, or Huaisang, if he allowed it.
"You have no idea how much I would like to," he murmurs, his own arms settling automatically around Jiang Cheng's shoulders as he leans up for a quick kiss "but Jin Ling is in trouble, we have to go."
Honestly, he'd rather let Jiang Cheng go off on his own so that he doesn't have to see his face once he sobers up and realises what he did, but he's going to need as much spiritual energy as possible to deal with whatever's waiting for them and Huaisang wants to help, however painful it's going to end up being for himself.
no subject
He finally thinks to put on the rest of his robes and with the other man's help, get his hair straightened enough to be decent. Whether Huaisang ever gets his pants back on or not, Jiang Cheng misses completely, but he holds the lovely man tightly against him. His hand settles at Huaisang's stomach. He tries to ignore the subtle brush of the lovely man's hair as they ride, being tall enough to for it not to be obtrusive.
Burning the amount of alcohol in his system is a slow process and not a comfortable one, but it helps he doesn't have to pay strict attention to where they're going while he does it. Instead, he can let his men follow Wei Wuxian- as terrifying a thought as that is.
After a while, he whispers in Huaisang's ear, "Are you alright?"
no subject
There's a part of him that is very, very tempted to leave the pants off - until he remembers that they're going to ride, and then he makes sure that he does get them back on at some point.
He leans back against Jiang Cheng's chest as they ride (he is still pretty drunk himself, in all honesty, and he sort of needs the support) and just lets himself enjoy the closeness, because truthfully he's not sure how long it's going to last once Jiang Cheng is sober again. While Jiang Cheng is working on actually getting sober again, he's half meditating, letting the solid chest behind him and the sway of the horse lull him into a totally relaxed state so he can build up his reserves of spiritual energy, ready to share them with Jiang Cheng. He blinks out of it when the other man speaks. He wishes he hadn't, coming back to reality just makes him starkly aware of the fact that riding a horse so soon after being thoroughly fucked is a terrible idea.
He also thinks it should be illegal for Wanyin to whisper in his ear, especially when he's now hyper conscious of that recent fucking. It sends a shiver down his spine.
"Mmhmm," he nods, his throat suddenly dry "Are you done? I can give you the energy now..."
no subject
He also wondered, would Huaisang have slept with him if he hadn't been so drunk? Would he be doing this now if he wasn't? And why did he feel so good? No! Wrong line of questions..
"Yes but.. thank you. For helping at Lotus Pier and doing this." He says softly.
no subject
Well, he's not shoving him off the horse and galloping away in horror, so that's a start, right? Still, he's incredibly aware that Jiang Cheng is probably mostly sober now and he doesn't know what that means.
He's not expecting a thank you. He also isn't sure getting him drunk and having enthusiastic sex can be described as 'helping' - although it certainly helped him. Well, in the moment anyway, and in the very happy memories it gave him, he's now utterly ruined for any other man but he's dealt with pining after Jiang Cheng before, he can do it again, right?
"Didn't I say we're friends, Wanyin?" he replies easily, pulling Jiang Cheng's hand away from his stomach (and not thinking about how much colder he suddenly feels without it, which is stupid anyway since his back is still pressed against the other man's chest) and placing his fingers over his wrist so he can start sharing his energy.
Friends is probably not the right word for whatever they are now, but they can deal with that when his nephew isn't in imminent danger.
no subject
He breathes a small, relieved laugh at the answer. He doesn't have anything to worry about. There was no resentment here. They were friends.. who had sex. He wasn't sure what that meant exactly, but he was fairly sure the friends part was clear.
He'd like to keep whispering and teasing Huaisang, but he had to quiet down to concentrate on channeling his spiritual energy. He does end their conversation (after a quick, as subtle as possible glance about) kiss right behind A-Sang's ear.
That's about the time whoever is paying attention (which wouldn't be one of these two) can see smoke up ahead.
no subject
That... that was definitely a kiss. That was a kiss. Just behind his ear. Jiang Cheng was totally sober and still kissed him - and that kind of kiss? That's not lust or arousal, that's just affection.
Huaisang thinks his brain might have short-circuited. At least he manages to keep giving the spiritual energy, which is probably for the best since that's the moment Wei Wuxian (who is riding up ahead, as far away as possible from whatever the fuck is happening between those two, don't think he isn't going to ask about it later, Jiang Cheng) shouts to catch everybody's attention, pointing out the plume of smoke and urging his horse into a gallop.
The others around them do the same and Huaisang holds on tightly to Jiang Cheng's wrist, focusing intently on giving him as much energy as possible and trying not to think about how painful things are going to get if their horse starts galloping right now. He's not going to mention that, though, because he knows this is more important.
no subject
Everything else in Jiang Cheng's mind faded as he gasped, staring up at that ominous smoke. No! If they were too late because he was drunk and screwing around, he was never going to forgive himself! He likely wouldn't anyway if this was connected to Jin Ling.
Unfortunately for Huaisang there wasn't much he could do to help. Well, except when he notices he does try to bunch more of his robes in the front of him and get it underneath A-Sang as a bit more of a cushion. He did cause that pain after all! His only other option would be to heal him and he didn't dare risk the energy if he might need to fight.
As they draw closer, the night air gets thick with smoke making it even darker, the smell of charred flesh, shouts of pain and fear from both men and horses, and yes, a dog barking. As they step into a clearing that backs up against a solid wall of stone, they find chaos.
Men in gold and white are fighting amongst themselves and what looks like a group of bandits as well- though they seem to be aiding one particular side of the guards. Jin Ling's carriage is fully engulfed in flames and on its side with one of the wheels broken but there are patches of dry grass and some bushes nearby that have also caught flame making everything smoky and hard to see.
Bodies lay everywhere either injured or dead and those still fighting are trampling them or tripping over them. However, in the very center of the fray is a man in black fighting almost like a madman, with two blades- one dark, one light- standing over the small blood form with a broken arrow protruding from a black shoulder of Jin Ling. Fairy is tucked against him, snapping at anyone who comes near, excluding the man defending him.
no subject
Wei Wuxian and the other Jiang disciples come galloping into the fray - it's almost impossible to tell which of the Jin guards they should be helping, though, amongst all the chaos. It's clear that they should go for the ones attacking the man defending Jin Ling, but beyond that there's no way to differentiate friend from foe.
Wei Wuxian pulls his horse to an abrupt stop and whips a blank talisman out from his robes. A guard swings a sword at him and he dodges, but flicks out his finger to allow it to be cut so he can use the blood to scrawl on the talisman, his foot lashing out to kick the guard back before he can attack again. He holds the talisman up to his face and mutters the incantation and then flings it out into the battle.
Immediately it scatters into small glowing orbs which dart out and attach themselves to several of the combatants - not including Jin Ling and the man defending him, or any of the Jiang disciples.
"The light marks enemies." he calls out, and the Jiang disciples fall into the fight, some of them helping to defend Jin Ling while others help those being attacked by the marked fighters.
Huaisang stops giving Jiang Cheng energy and twists a little so he can look at the man behind him.
"Go on, save your nephew." he says, shoving himself away so he can jump off the horse - it's not the most graceful move in the slightest, but he manages to roll as he hits the ground and he knows he'd only get in the way if he didn't do it.
no subject
As he gets close he recognizes the blade being from the Lan clan, which is confusing. He also sees the man is indeed protecting him. Sliding off the horse, he hurries closer. "Who are you? What happened?" He demands, zidian sizzling. The questions go unanswered but instead, he's bowed to. Strange.. however, since he isn't getting attacked, he drops to Jin Ling's side. He has a terrible moment of deja vu with someone he loves in a condition like this in middle of a battlefield.
The boy had a serious burn on his shoulder and the arrow was lodged deep. There'd be a scar from at least one or both of those injuries and that was if they were lucky. There was some black soot around his nose and mouth that Jiang Cheng wasn't sure what might have caused it, but it was causing a rough wheezing sound as he tried to breathe. As bad as it sounded, it gave Wanyin some hope that there was evidence he was alive at all.
Beyond that the rest of the wounds looked fairly artificial, ones that would hurt but he could recover from. Fortunately with the added help and being able to identify who the opponents really were, the battle was able to shift quickly.
"Wuxi- what do you want?" Abruptly the dark man was shaking Wanyin's shoulder roughly and moves to his side. He stabs the ground with the dark blade and opens a water skin from his belt. He makes a gesture toward his nose and mouth with it and offers it to him.
"What?" Wanyin asks confused. As he looked at the man, he noticed the black veins on his neck and scowls. "Who the hell are you?!"
Song Lan breathes a huff of frustration and pulls out a cloth, ignoring the question again. He moves closer and spills the water over Jin Ling's face, causing the young man to cough. He uses the cloth to wipe away the black sooth that comes up from the coughs.
Lan looks up at Wanyin and if Wei Wuxian is there, him too. He taps his chest and then makes a motion with his hand going upward along his throat and points at his nose.
no subject
"He needs to bring up the...whatever that is?" Wei Wuxian guesses, arriving just in time to see the miming. He claps a hand on the other man's shoulder and gives him a grateful nod "Song Lan, it's good to see you."
He crouches down at the other side of his nephew, looking over him with a worried expression before looking back to Song Lan.
"Is that what you meant? We need to clear his lungs?"
Around them, the battle is dying down, nearly all the attackers either dead or captured (as long as at least one of them is alive, Wuxian thinks, they can question them, make sure there's nobody else left of this plot)
Huaisang is sitting on a rock to the side of the road waiting for them to be finished, he doesn't have anything useful to add and he's pretty sure he twisted his ankle when he jumped, so he's just going to sit quietly and not make a fuss until it's time to leave.
no subject
Wanyin keeps using the cloth as he was shown, but looks at his brother suspiciously. "What's the matter with this guy? Who is he and why does he look like that puppet of yours?"
Lan's eyes narrow and a bit at that, but the man was holding an injured kid. He'll let it slide, but he does step closer to Wuxian.
no subject
"This is Song Lan, you've met before, at the Chang Clan's and again when we were staying with Wen Ning and his sister." Though he's well aware his brother had other things on his mind during that time.
"He was turned into a puppet by Xue Yang, who also took his tongue, which is why he's not speaking." Wei Wuxian explains, giving the other man an apologetic look for bringing it up, but knowing his brother was too rattled to hear anything but the full explanation "we restored his consciousness during that whole debacle at Yi City."
He glances worriedly over Jin Ling, praying they got here in time.
"He also got here before we did." He points out.
no subject
The rogue cultivator quickly shakes his hand and head to cut him off. He smiles, bows his head, and gestures to Jin Ling. He steps further away to let Wanyin work and picks up his sword. In the ground, he writes Arrow needs to be removed. Might bleed out. Tricks or cauterize?
sorry I've not switched accounts lol
Wei Wuxian nods, frowning thoughtfully. and assessing what they have on hand.
"Cauterise. He's still barely conscious, we may as well since I doubt he'll feel it. Then we can get him moved somewhere safe." he decides, he pauses for a moment before looking up at the other man "Thank you, Song Lan, without you we might have been too late."
He thinks that's all that needs to be said, doubts Song Lan would accept anymore, so he nods at him and returns to his nephew's side.
"Jiang Cheng, hold him still, I'm going to get the arrow out," he explains, getting a flame talisman ready to seal the wound "then we're going to have to get him moving. Lanling or Yunmeng?"
He'll let Jiang Cheng decide, suspecting his brother might want to feel some sense of control right now.
